And burn you shall, Bitch” - Althea Cedarfall (A Kingdom of Lies)
SUMMARY:
This is about a half fey named Robin Vale who has grown up among humans, but was captured for coin by fey hunters. When he was rescued by a fey princess, he’s taken to Wychwood, the fey realm - where everyone is focused on the war against humans who hate, hunt and kill them for coin.
Robin doesn’t understand how he fits into the fey’s plans… until he is revealed to be the lost heir to the Icethorn Court. Aided by the unclaimed, destructive power of the Winter Court, which had been thought destroyed with
Robin’s mother’s death, the fey ready their numbers for complete domination of the human realm.
But by claiming the throne with the help of his devastatingly handsome personal guard, Erix, Robin’s very presence opposes the long-planned invasion. Along with his allies - including Althea, a stern princess hellbent on stopping the human hunters from killing her kin - Robin is thrust into a world of betrayal, murder, and lies. He must survive long enough to have the choice: listen to fate and claim his family’s power, or let it wreak havoc on a realm that turned its back on him for becoming who he was truly meant to be.
Spoiler Alert for book two:
I am currently on the third book and liking it so far. My favorite character in all three books is Princess Althea Cedarfall! I love her very much and she is one of the most loyal and supportive friend one can have. Robin, the main character is the most annoying book in the series, he is very immature and impulsive I find myself yelling at my kindle and saying “you are so stupid! Don’t do that!” And always find himself in trouble. Although the premise of a King being in love with his bodyguard instead of the princess is what sold me in reading this book. Erix, the bodyguard, I find his character one dimensional on the first book while on book two he didn’t appear much to form a character development. Another character I liked too is Duncan, who didn’t appear till book two. I find his character development from fey hating hunter to a devoted lover of our fey king very beautiful and endearing.
I haven’t finished the third book yet. But I am really hoping for a Robin x Duncan, but I am fine with Erix and Robin too since they are the first couple in the books. What I love to see is more about Althea and Gyah and I am hoping I could see more of that on the third book. Since I haven’t finished the third book yet, I wouldn’t know if there will be a next installment our not (I would not mind a fourth one, hahaha).
Next is Ben Alderson’s writing style, for me, he writes with a lot of flowery words and description that could be shorten in a few words. However, it is a very easy read and still entertaining. And the magic and world building is good but could be expanded more like the nephilim and their gods. Overall, if you like cozy fantasy novels I would recommend this book. Hopefully I would be able to finish third book soon! Ciao!
Updated:
Hello guys! I just finish book three of the realm of fey series. The ending was a freaking cliffhanger aside from that I am very mad at the ending you guys (no spoilers). Robin still hasn’t changed and he is still very immature and selfish person, what is wrong with communicating, anyone? I also felt like the ending was kind of a rush? But hopefully everything will get settled in the next book.
